Optimistic designs for the FutureOf ___________.
Let's bring fun back to tech. FutureOf platforms Tech-Forward designers that capture the whimsy, optimism, and magic of the early internet era.
Transforming graphics processing units (GPUs) — one symbol of our changing world — into a purse might not make the whole world optimistic about technology again, but it does beg the question:
When did we begin to fear rather than celebrate our tools?
In Nick Bostrom's influential "Vulnerable World Hypothesis" he shared a metaphor that foreshadowed our increasing skepticism towards technology:
"Imagine an urn filled with balls representing different discoveries and inventions. Most of these balls are white, representing technological advancements that benefit humanity. A small number of grey balls represent innovations that are dangerous but manageable. However, there's also a black ball in the urn, symbolizing a disastrous invention that could lead to the collapse of civilization. As time progresses and we achieve technological breakthroughs more rapidly, our chances of pulling a black ball out of the urn increase exponentially."
The mission of FutureOf is to take action in light of this fear — to recognize our agency in building the future we want to see. We choose to see the orbs in Nick Bostrom's urn as white (our logo): representing advancements that benefit humanity — and to do our part to build a society where the majority of humans are well-educated about the inner-workings and therefore risks associated with our breakthroughs.
Let's incentivize humanity to test new technology alongside one another by supporting designers that showcase the power of innovation in fun, beautiful ways.
Let's experiment, build, examine, and showcase the inner-workings of the devices and innovations that have become integral to our everyday life.
Let's make tech more accessible. Let's take the fear out of our FutureOf everything.
Let's bring fun back to tech.
